So i just bought my laptop (well..got it for xmas) and its specs are better than my old pc, but it fails at running SA. So, i have finally found out why. It's a 64bit version of Win 7 with 1gb of ram. Apparently you need 4gb of ram for a 64 bit. Time to take this back to the shop me thinks. Is this a rare mistake? + why does it need 4gb of ram? Or is it worth just buying the extra ram?

You dont need 4GB ram for a 64 bit system, it would theoretically also work with 4MB of ram. If the ram is really the problem, it is just because Win 7 itself already eats a lot of ram and so theres not much left for GTA.
RAM is quite cheap at the moment, so of course it will be better to get some more ram instead of buying a new laptop.

Thanks. Are shops even allowed to sell PC's without even meeting the minimum of 2GB microsoft recommends for a 64bit?

I heard, and read that Windows 7 uses 1GB of ram just for itself, so the rest is for games and such.

So true, I have a 4 GB RAM HP Pavilion laptop and when I turn it on, after my windows loads fully, it takes up like 35-40% of my ram WITHOUT running any application.
