East Coast Earthquake

Yeah, did anyone else feel the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that hit: North Carolina, Virginia, New Jersey and New York?

It was pretty weird xD

It started in Virginia, just a 20 miles from where I live actually. I can say, with complete certainty, that people did not feel it all the way in New York. Even saying it was felt in Washington DC would be a stretch (as that's about 200 miles from my location). Even the news stations over exaggerated the earthquakes power, as it only shook my house for 10 seconds, at most, and the shake was minimal. Local news, which headquarters is about another 20 miles from the earthquakes original position (with my house being about the middle) said it lasted for about 2 minutes and was severe.

A bunch of bull crap to be honest, it was nothing. Not any damage yet has been reported for more than a few broken windows that shattered on impact. Anyone who acts like it was anything more is lying through their teeth.

It is possible and mostly always happens that the epicentre of a earthquake is not always the strongest hit point, thus the fact that it wasn't that bad for you.

I was in the basement of an 8 story building. I though the building was falling in before I figured out it was an earth quake.

According to a Nation Geographic video clip and the United States Geological Survey Center;
Quote:

The strongest point in an earthquake is the epicenter.

However, there is the freak chance that it may have happened in this case, but I'm not convinced.

Must say, it WAS felt in new york. My girlfriend called me during it, and told me her apartment was shaking. I myself did not feel it, and I was standing in the middle of a baseball field.
