Was a good attempt though your overall movement and positioning was totally inaccurate. Using a person as a shield is mainly to protect yourself from potential threats, so walking with him in front of you whilst the enemies are behind you leaves you open and unprotected.

As for obtaining the data from the table, your weapon wasn't firm and no doubt was off target therefore if he wanted to he could've easily of disarmed you, making your overall attempt pointless. But you had fun so I'll give you a high-five for it :P
