Hosting from home
#1

My spare computer dedicated to hosting my SA:MP server just shit the bed, but my PC (which runs vista) makes the pings high a lot and when I'm trying to actually play my server on my PC, I lag.

I have no money what so ever to buy paid hosting. What can I do to make it not lag, nor the pings get high? Thanks

  • Direct ethernet cable to the router/hub (short as possible)
  • Avoid running other tasks on the PC
  • Avoid lots of computers on the network
  • Avoid downloading things
Thats about it really there is nothing more you can really do.

As long as the cable is under 100m the length won't affect latency (ping)

Check your net speed, some homes only get 50kb/s others can get upto 100mb/s, you want as high as possible to host a decent server,
and dont host it on the same pc as your playing it on, its just making it worse, buy a host, or a new pc, and make sure you're using a Cat5e or Cat6 100mb/s network patch cable.
Also, Dont run many apps on that pc as said above, That takes up more CPU usage, playing the game at the same time will just kill it...

Did you bother to read what he said? He's unable to buy one. Now he is though. I think we have found our own new definition of the term 'newbie'.
