BIOS Update Filed - No Power
#1

Hi guys!

Sorry if this is the wrong section, I haven't had time to check to see if there are any other posts like this out on the forums as I'm using my office computer and supposed to be working!

Код:
Last night at home I was Googling around to why my Acer Aspire 5315 had been overheating since I re-installed the OS to XP, a lot of forums and websites claimed it was needing a BIOS Update so I went ahead to give it ago with Acer's BIOS Update Program....It started to run, then pops up with something along the lines of 'Verified Failed'.

My computer then froze, no keyboard, power button response at all so I took out the battery (Big Mistake!), now the computer won't power on, nor show it's on charge when sticking the cord in.
I've ******d around, and tried various techniques such as the Fn + Esc way of using a thumb drive to reset by BIOS to it's default but it doesn't even respond to being switched on so that doesn't work.

I'm that desperate to solving this so I'm giving away the following to the person(s) that can solve this problem with me.

-$50 ******** / ****** Ads Adversing Vouchers
-FREE Web Hosting with us on our highest package (Usually around Ј40)
-Regular freebies and nifty schwag as it comes to our offices

I'd really appreciate some help with this, Oh and I have the laptop with me as well, in it's laptop bag.

Thanks in advance!

Ashley

That's why you should only update your BIOS if there is a very good reason to do so.

Now all you can do to fix it is replace the bricked chip with a working one or buy a new motherboard. Since this is a laptop I don't think that you can do any of this.

If your warranty is still valid I would suggest using it.

Take a hammer and hit the laptop a couple of times, then throw it in the trash can.

Your motherboard is broken now, you can practically throw it away, repairing it will cost even more then buying a new one.
By upgrading your BIOS you void your warranty, although you can try sending it back and just say ''it suddenly didn't worked anymore''.

Your bios is damaged now, ive had this problem myself some time ago. Some models have a backup chip or other methods to reflash the bios. Search for bios recovery and your laptop/used mainboard.
As older models and especially laptops do not have such options very often, there might be no possibility for this.

In that case, open your laptop and search for the bios flash chip (mostly a squared, flat chip that can be removed) and write down all infos printed on it. Or try to ****** what chip is used in your laptop. Now search for the chip model (one of the numbers, mostly some letters followed by a number) on ebay or ******. Add "bios" if you do not find anything or try another number from the chip.
You should find something like "Preflashed bios chip" or "chip repair". There are some people/shops who sell chips with a working bios on it, especially for damaged bioses like you have. Select a chip flashed for your laptop (be sure it uses at least the same bios like yours, you can find out which bios you need with ******), it will cost around 10-20$

Edit: Ignore the recovery part, wont work if you cant even start
@DVDK: Nah, it is not broken, just get a new chip or send your old chip to a reflash service or in case of emergency to the mainboard distributor.

If the BIOS chip is damaged, you can describe your motherboard as ''broken'', if something doesn't work it's broken.

You should not ask on the SA-MP forums for help with these kind of problems, you are better of going to a computer store and ask someone who works with computers daily and is qualified..

Regardless I'll share what I think about it anyways, it seems strange that a laptop would not work at all anymore after a failed bios update, but I guess it's possible. though it doesn't necessarily mean you can now throw it away or should swing with a hammer at it >_>, in fact I think resetting the cmos/bios will fix your problem.

You can do this by opening up your laptop and find the clear cmos jumper and placing it on the other side for a few seconds and then placing it back or, by removing the bios battery and shorting the positive and negative for a few seconds.

Here is a video which explains it: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdHH9KrceR0[/ame]

But, I do not reccomend doing this yourself, especially cause it's a laptop, you're better off going to a computer store like I said before. If you do however plan on doing this yourself then don't blame me if you mess up your laptop even more

Hope this helped..

EDIT: @DVDK - it is not 'damaged', the bios firmware was updated and got corrupt in some way, this can be fixed by resetting it and hopefully after a reset the laptop will be able to start again.

EDIT2: At least this worked for me a few times (I've worked at a computer repair shop for a while), it should set everything back and undo-ing your failed update, but maybe not... again you're better of going to a computer shop and see if they can fix it.

Please do some research before posting stuff like this, i'm in the IT for a couple of years now i know where i'm talking about.
You cannot ''restore'' a corrupt BIOS just by resetting it, UNLESS you have a 2nd backup BIOS, which almost all laptops don't have.
Oh and laptops don't have ''jumpers'' on their motherboards.

The only way to fix this problem would be either insert a new BIOS chip, or buy a new motherboard.
And since this is a laptop, it's very unlikely that you can just pop out the BIOS chip and buy a new one.

Just to correct it:

1. Read the edit I made 1 hour before you posted this.
2. I never said the chip is damaged, because it is not. Only the bios is corrupted, because it was not written on the chip correctly. If you say, throw it all away and get a new mainboard, this is like throwing your computer away when your windows does not start (see the post after your old one )

Okay then, help him buying the exact same BIOS chip and replacing it, good luck
