Plug your HDMI back in and check your Audio settings in your Control Panel. You might just need to switch the device over.
You can also use VGA for video and a plain-jane audio cable, (headphone cable) for audio.
As for the USB and movies, I don't know. I imagine there are some, "smart," TVs now that can do that, like ****** TVs and such, but I don't personally know anything about that sort of thing.
