Just so you know, if your alternator fails, then there will be less charge than normal, to the point where it won't charge, and will need a mechanic with a spare alternator...
Normal charge off an alternator for a 12 volt system is up to 14 volts.
The usual issue with alternators is the brushes being dirty, or worn away. Simple 10-20 buck fix by replacing the brushes, which usually if people are working on them, they have a spare in stock, take the old one with them, and recon the old one back at a workshop.
