Fact is that a simple search actually returns results, of which one of them was actually the correct extension, and the solution?

Reinstall... Chances are it's a mod that's causing the trouble, or a corrupt file. Either way, no point in debating it, it's a simple solution, to actually reinstall, and follow the guidelines of "Mods aren't supported".
