The one bad thing, which is a really bad thing, is that these are going to take up a lot of visible object slots.

Even if you're using streamer, this is a lot of objects in one place. When these objects stream in streamer will stream out other objects just so these can be visible. It's always best to only do 2D even if you leave it hollow.

I used to make a lot of these back when Pasha first made UCW.

An easy way you could generate them is using a BMP reader (Gamer_Z released a plugin called easybmp that will do just fine).
