The idea in far cry 3 is to put resources to good use (crafting).
Wildlife is used for bags, wallets, etc. No one said that can't make weapon holster out of plant material.
Bamboo for instance is light and very strong, so a man with enough skill can make lots of useful things out of it.
Can't have wildlife in GTASA, but you have the main idea and the possibilities to implement it.
Don't mean to advertise now, but I designed my island for things like this. Sure it's not the best, but it would be awesome to see someone putting it to good use.
