This can still be done as suggested via mySQL easily, the thing with mySQL is you can limit the access easily where the remote access if turned on is allowed to everyone publicly if port 7777 is open.

Having Remote Access opened without being connected to the server isn't very safe and secure but that's your decision I would simply just suggest a 1 attempt login or else ban and that will solve your problem, even if they switch their IPs its still going to take a few minutes to do.
