Although Kaspersky and ESET NOD32 are at the top list of the anti-viruses, I see that Avast (which is heavy program which means it takes more ram than the ones listed before) was mentioned more than any of the two I said at the at start of this post.
A good anti-virus is the one that won't eat much ram, run at the background without effecting the performance and do its job well.
I am using ESET NOD32, and can say it does it job well while I am browsing, downloading and even when I just browse folders.
