I have had 3 lessons so far and I think the only thing that really helped me was a racing game that helped me steering into corners. I also have a truck simulator which I think was helpful for different situations on the road.
Only those things have helped me. Shifting gears wasn't really hard but I wouldn't recommend relying on it if you have done a racing game ( I am shifting too fast :> ) The driving instructor will help you through everything.
That was for the practical. Theory is just learning from a book (or website if you can find one) and doing some online tests or so. That's all there really is to it. Theory is just like school.. learning, learning, learning.

The knowlage is easy but im having my first driving lesson on thursday and I really want to impress my instructor by knowing how to use the Clutch. Does it work like Foot off the accelorator clutch change gear. Foot off the clutch and accel. I expirenced racing games like Forza 2. I may give truck simulator a go. Is it Euro truck simulator?. Basicaly I handled the car 3 times for 5 minutes but never got used the clutch. If There was a clutch controll in the racing games, then I would be like yes i know that now. But since the start of 2009 I been playing with Manual racing

Basicly, if you let your foot off the clutch you are already driving. You only have to add some gas to it to speed up. Before a corner, release the gas; press the clutch (and brake if it requires braking); shift down; foot off the brake; steer into the corner and halfway in the corner, release (slowly) the clutch to give a little bit of extra speed. From there it starts all over again.
Gas, release gas, clutch, shift, release clutch, gas......Corner: release gas, clutch, and if necessary, brake, shift, steer, release clutch and.. gas >>>
That is basicly it. For clutch control in racing games: Try Live for speed (lfs.net) Demo version is free and you will learn a lot from it.
Truck sim is 18Wheels of Steel.
