Any of you guys looked into Irrlicht, it looks pretty good IMO and It looks to me that it's completely free and open source, all they require is credit.
They have some pretty cool tools also so if you are after doing such a project then maybe look into this ?
I've had a play with it and got some basic GUI and some wierd looking lass on my screen with hardly any code so it could be just what you guys are looking for as I see these types of threads alot (game making and moddeling etc).
