Building a new computer? Look here.
#1

There comes a time in our life when our old computer just isnt doing it anymore, it's old, struggles to run even the least intesive program, its slow, and you cant play lots of games on it. Can you upgrade it? Sure! But that will only get you as far as that computer can handle, if your computer is more than 4 years old, dont bother upgrading it. Won't do much good. This is a guide to help you build a new computer. Many people seem to have questions about it, and i would like to simplify it.

If you live in the US or Canada, use newegg.com or newegg.ca theyre very helpful and have tons of videos to explain things to people who have no understanding of computers and their parts.

I will be using USD as the currency as I live in the US. Prices may vary depending on where you live.

if you wish to build a new rig, be ready to put out around 1k usd for a good one and 800$ usd for an ok one.

heres what youll need.

-Case (dont spend a shit load of money on this, there are 200$$$ ones but the $60 ones are almost as good, they do the job. Make sure you have at least 3 fans that come with a case, some cases come with a power supply, i will refer to it as a psu from now on. If the case you want has a psu, make sure its large enough for everything you want, so make sure that it has at least 100 watts more than what the gpu reccomends.)

I recommend using intel motherboards and CPU's as they tend to run better and have better reviews than AMD. I will test this theory soon in my next build.

-Motherboard (around 120$ - 230$, dont spend more then 230 on one, after that ,its just a waste as the 230 one will have everything you need, wifi, dvi, vga, 6 channel audio, etc. Make SURE that it has the proper connectors for your gpu and CPU. Your cpu needs lga 1155 or 2011, depending on what you choose, there are even more, if your want a different one. In case you want amd, the cpu connector will be AMD3 and AMD3+. So basically, the motherboard should match the processor, whether its lga xxxx or AMD3/AMD3+. Now for the GPU, make sure yoiur mothreboard has at least two PCI E 3.0 x16 (PCI 2.0 x16 will work fine as well, depending on your video card.) Installing these are fairly easy, just screw it in where there are holes.

-Processor, choose whatever you want, this should cost anywhere from 200$-1000$ I recommend not spending more than 350$, an i7 3770k is enough for anything and it costs 340$. AMD cpu's are a bit cheaper but arent as powerful. Make sure the socket matches the one on your motherboard. When installing it, hold it from the sides, and never force it in. Also, look for the triangles. One last thing, the heatsink should have thermal paste on it, its on the bottom where the heatsink touches the processor and the should be a rectangle of a different color. Make sure your cpu comes with a heatsink, or get one separately. if you get one separately, they shouldnt cost more than $80 for a good liquid cooled one.

-Power Supply Unit (PSU) Get any power supply thats over 550 watts, or more if you have a power intensive video card, fairly simple, should cost around 100$ depending on how big it is. Just screw it into the case and route the cables.

-Video Card make sure the connector is PCI E 2.0/3.0 x16 The video card should be at least 1gb. these can cost anywhere from 60-1000$$$, i recommend getting one thats around 200$. Just insert it into the proper slot and screw it down.

-Random Access Memory (RAM) Get at least 4gb, but i recommend 16gb. It should be DDR 3 1600 mhz non ecc, non buffered. 16gb around $85. Just insert it into the ram slots.

-DVD reader/writer install it in the front of your case and screw it in, connect the sata and power cables, should cost 20$.

-Operating System (OS): Choose the OS of your choice whether it's Linux, Windows, or even Mac OS. If you're getting windows, wait until October 28 (official release date of Windows 8) and get it for $40, its very similar to windows 7, so you should have no problems running any programs, and it'll be a lot cheaper than 7. Linux is free, so don't pay for it because its a scam! Be careful with Mac OS as you break the EULA (End User License Agreement) by installing it on a non Mac machine.
Price:
$0 USD - $220 USD
$0 EUR - $175 EUR
$0 GBP - $140 GBP
How To Install:
Step 1: Put the DVD Disk into the DVD Reader/Writer
Step 2: Restart the computer, press and hold F8 to get to the boot menu, and boot it from the DVD Reader/Writer (Should have the name of the DVD Reader Writer in the boot menu, so if it's an Asus DVD Reader/Writer, it should say Asus in the name). Use the Arrow keys and enter in order to select an option.
Step 3: The computer should enter setup mode and then follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps, I know it's a bit messy, but i wrote it on a iPad, so its hard to make it neat, if you want it to be neater, just comment so and ill try to redo it on my PC.
