I don't really know about MySQL but in other systems, there is a special function to set floats..
Like dini, for numbers you use dini_IntSet, but for floats, dini_FloatSet.

Maybe there is the same for MySQL, and it is just setting the floats to un-existent or, out of world bounderies positions...
