Windows 8 won't break backward-compatibility with pre-existing Windows 7 applications for the most part, so I can't see a reason why it shouldn't work.
The transition from Windows 7 from Vista was fairly smooth, there was one bug some users reported which none seem to experience any more (or they use the fix).
