You can't just open a script and expect to learn from that as a whole, you need to start with small things. The wiki doesn't necessarily 'teach' you completely, it's mainly to learn the syntax of functions. However the examples can sometimes be useful as they are simple.
Start with variables, callbacks etc. then move on to arrays and shit. Arrays are not a good starting point.
