Not really an answer, but:
As there are patches to downgrade, their must be patches to upgrade. If you bought your version, there even should be legal ones on the rockstar site - if they still support GTA SA, i don't know.
And, other info: if you manage to change your game version and install the mod, you won't be able to play SA:MP anymore...so I guess you won't install it?
