Well the diary is simple, you read the book, select a character and write how the daily life of that character would be.
let's say:

28 of November, 2011: Dear Diary, Today was a very nice and splendid day for me. I met new people, and it was simply wonderful. I played football with some friends (I love this sport) and then we watched some movies at the cinema. After the cinema my family was waiting for me at home with some macarroni and cheese. I feel (character) is stubborn, he doesn't care on the feelings of other persons, while (character 2) is friendly. My best friend is (character 3).

You need quotes and 100 words per entry.
