I've generally avoided directly selling scripts to avoid sensitive issues like this, but I do occasionally script things for people for money.
But surely if selling scripts could be against the license, wouldn't allowing subscribers or 'donators' in a SA-MP server be seen in the same light? After all, you're modifying the GTA:SA game to an extent via SA-MP for people who 'donated'/paid for the upgraded service, for example a server allowing people to buy 'VIP' for $5 where you can have extra cars with special colours? I generally haven't seen anyone condemn this yet.
Many other services use other portions of code and software for the purpose of selling, an example of this would be the use of the OggVorbis SDK in GTA:SA. OggVorbis' SDK was presumably not made for people to use in programs that would be sold on, but the same thing goes for SA-MP scripts in my opinion, you (SA-MP) haven't told us directly that we're not allowed to sell scripts - and a lot of us would probably avoid from doing so if we were directly told we weren't allowed to (with the assumed exception that Carlton and the others who have a 'history of attacking SA-MP').

Many scripts sold contain portions of script written by others, or script code that originated from the SA-MP server files. Is it right to do this? Most of the people who run these type of sites have a history of attacking SA-MP also. |
