A firewall would cost way to much. My suggestion would be to get a VPS or dedicated and limit connections on it. For example don't install HTTPD or anything else that can cause any way to send attacks to your server. They can no longer send an DDos Connection Attack through SA-MP because there's a connection limiter since 0.3c R2.

So if your just hosting that and nothing else, no webhosting or anything. Even a different server for your control panel is what I do. It prevents many ways for your server to be attacked on a large scale. They could ping it but with network security this can be limited pretty easily.
