The built-in NPC system wont get you far when you want to create dynamic bots that attack and can be attacked, as you can only record and playback something. And you cant really record enough to create a smooth ki.
There are methods to do this with the normal npc system (see that zombie npc filterscript) but it is hard.
I recommend you using the CNPC plugin for this. It isnt available here in the forum anymore, you will have to get it from somewhere else. And do NOT create "npcplayers" that display on the normal playerlist, as this is the reason why it got deleted from this forum. Then you can use it to create a nice KI for the npcs, as you can move and control them as you like.
