Some models have a backup chip or other methods to reflash the bios. Search for bios recovery and your laptop/used mainboard.
As older models and especially laptops do not have such options very often, there might be no possibility for this. |

I've ******d around, and tried various techniques such as the Fn + Esc way of using a thumb drive to reset by BIOS to it's default but it doesn't even respond to being switched on so that doesn't work.

In that case, open your laptop and search for the bios flash chip (mostly a squared, flat chip that can be removed) and write down all infos printed on it. Or try to ****** what chip is used in your laptop. Now search for the chip model (one of the numbers, mostly some letters followed by a number) on ebay or ******. Add "bios" if you do not find anything or try another number from the chip.
You should find something like "Preflashed bios chip" or "chip repair". There are some people/shops who sell chips with a working bios on it, especially for damaged bioses like you have. Select a chip flashed for your laptop (be sure it uses at least the same bios like yours, you can find out which bios you need with ******), it will cost around 10-20$. |

That's why you should only update your BIOS if there is a very good reason to do so.
Now all you can do to fix it is replace the bricked chip with a working one or buy a new motherboard. Since this is a laptop I don't think that you can do any of this. If your warranty is still valid I would suggest using it. |
If the BIOS chip is damaged, you can describe your motherboard as ''broken'', if something doesn't work it's broken.
