Linux on PS3

Please don't post anything about Xbox - I really don't give a shit :)
Now i understand how Sony released the firmware update for PS3, Which disabled the "Other OS" option. Which basically screws Linux.

But, i have heard that a 2.5" Laptop HDD would work in the PS3 (As the internal one)

So couldn't i just have one HDD with the older firmware on? And then the normal PS3 HDD having the normal PS3 shit on?

No idea if that would work, but ill see what you guys come up with.

I think I understand what your trying to do... your trying to run older firmware on the PS3 by putting a new HDD in.

Now, if I've understood correctly, then I'm sorry but this isn't possible :P The firmware isn't stored on the HDD and once you've upgraded it is *practically* impossible to downgrade.

It's kind of annoying that they took something that to some people was a big selling point of the PS3 out of the system just like that.

The PS3 system files, OS, and all that are internally stored on the PS3 and cannot be altered via the HDD or any other method. I have 2 PS3's (one of them I took apart and repaired because it had the YLOD, but the YLOD just came back like a week later) and I remember my original launch day 60GB which is now unfortuantly broken (R.I.P) used to handle Linux pretty damn well, the major issue was that intensive tasks and gaming were not possible through Linux as the PS3 did not allow the other OS function access to the full power of the Cell Processor and the Graphics Card which was annoying.

Anyway, hope this sort of provides you with an answer, even if it wasn't the one you wanted to hear

That's not what happens. MS fixed that problem years ago, get over it.

Don't call me a silly Xbox fan boy. It was a joke for fuck sake.
Fan boy is the stupidest thing to say, you're either going to like one thing or the other.

I was PlayStation for the whole of my childhood until i realized PS3 was way over priced, they put no money into good servers, Blu-Ray is overrated and it's wireless sucks ass. PS3 has a whole 2million less people to play online with and in today's gaming community's its mostly about the online experience which Sony fail to comprehend.

Enough off the off topic please now, please understand my previous post was a joke. No pun intended.

And yes, The console is never moved, if i did ever move it, it would fuck up my disk. And was kept in a cool place, with good ventilation.

PS3 has nothing wrong with wireless, work's PERFECT for me. Yes, PS3 is expensive, But it's worth it rather than spending my money on a piece of shit. And yes i know the community is not as big, But that's 2 million less 12 year old kids playing and screaming at you. Plus, at least we don't need to pay for online.

Also, PS3 is more for multiple reasons.

It's not a cheap Blu-ray player
PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers - Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version) - Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 80 $

Enough reasons?

Now, i've finished. Back to the topic.
God, that took me a while to type :/

Anyway, back to the topic, Is there any other way of doing this? No known way of downgrading yet?
