SA:MP Random Flicker
#21

I've experienced this (or perhaps just a similar issue) since 2007, and I've never had ANY mods installed (apart from SA-MP of course). It only seems to occur outside the 'normal' map boundaries, i.e. past 3000 units laterally and 500 or so on the Z axis (high in the sky). Only occurs with certain camera angles.

I've had about 4 completely different graphics cards in that period of time, so it's definitely an issue with the GTA rendering.

It also only seems to happen with objects that have a very big surface area, for example ground objects. Basically objects which aren't always all on the screen at once.

Well this occurs regardless of whether your inside or outside of the map boundaries(for me anyways). It doesn't happen at first, but only after a while which is why I have the suspicion that it has something to do with the stream memory fix because whenever it occurs, the stream memory fix is always in the same general area number wise.

The new stream memory fix was implemented within 0.3.7 whereas you claim you faced the issue a year ago, before 0.3.7. So, no, that can't be it.

I'm aware, they made stream memory fix mods a year ago as well. All I'm saying is that the amount of streaming mem used is always in the same area when this occurs, I'm not fully blaming stream mem.

I thought you meant SA:MP's native implementation of the stream memory fix, that's the confusion.

I apologize, I made it too vague.

It might be important to ask;
  • Does this only happen near a custom map / custom objects?
  • Does this only happen in a specific area?
  • Does this only happen in a specific server?
The next thing to ask is; does deleting your gta.set file help at all? Maybe something is wrong with your settings; try resetting them!

Around mapping? That could be very likely.
Areas? I've noticed that the Pizza Stack in LS seems to be a area of high chance of it happening, Grove Street as well.
Servers? No, server doesn't matter. Happens across multiple.
And deleting my gta.set hasn't really seemed to do anything for it, I've tried that before.

Is there a specific version of SA-MP this started happening in? Have you tried purchasing the game from a disk, rather than steam? SA:MP isn't officially compatible with steam.

This happens to me. (Modded and non modded)

I've pretty much only experienced it on SA-MP (never noticed it on SP, I have a REALLY. bad IGPU also.), when I type stuff in the chat box, *flicks* SA-MP closes the chat box.

I won't lie and I'll be straight up. I pirated the game last year just to check if steam was perhaps the issue, and it wasn't. Same thing started happening.

Oddly enough I saw this mod yesterday before you posted and installed it, I haven't done full testing but I saw that it fixes some sort of flickering issue in the improvement/bug fix section of the mod, I'll give an update once I've played with it long enough to find out.

Maybe its the way SA:MP loads objects; or maybe it has something to do with objects being removed? Did this happen before 0.3d(where the removebuilding functions didn't exist)

This ALWAYS happens to me when I'm driving a vehicle and I'm moving the camera so I can only see the road. Doesn't happen in single player. Doesn't bother me though.

I started playing during 0.3e so I wouldn't have a clue, but no it didn't happen back then. But back then I played on a shitty little laptop and the game look bad enough then so if it ever did happen I never noticed it.

Also in regards to the SAMP Addon mod; I've messed around with it a little bit in game and as far as I can tell it doesn't happen but I haven't screwed around with it long enough to know so I'm not getting my hopes up over it, its happened before where I thought it was fixed and the next day I was wrong. I'll give more info once I screw around with it.

Well, okay, it's odd it happens on different PC's; but has never really happened to me and I have also been on SA:MP through 2 PC's.
