There are VPS servers available with DDOS protection. You should consider checking them out.

DDoS protection isn't achieved with freeware you get from some random site, if you want real protection you need to get a server from a reputable data centre which has dedicated firewall hardware in place. Such as OVH who provide cheap and reliable VPS' you probably won't want a dedicated server from them since it is more for enterprise consumers then commercial.

So lets just forget about their other brands http://www.soyoustart.com and http://www.kimsufi.com which are for commercial and personal uses.
