Would anyone be interested in participating in a open-source server? Just checking how much interest there is.

No, why should someone work for your server, if he can make his own with the same gamemode?

There could be people who will just download without doing anything to it.

Isn't that releasing the game mode?
Take an example, the godfather... 'Everyone' is using it and editing the names of it...
There you have it.

Open-source projects work well with lots of other communities, clearly nobody wants to put effort in without getting anything in return. Look at Y-Less, he contributes tonnes to the community, all that a single person would contribute to this would be a feature or two yet everyone seems to get so worked up about it.

Open-source software projects often are even better than private ones. The problem with dooing this in samp is the giant amount of kids, open-source needs at least a basic level of maturity and scripting knowledge to work out.
I like that idea, but indeed people will just come by to steal parts or the whole script for their own server, or some kids without any knowledge of project developement would mess the whole script. So the project looses any kind of specialness (see godfather and other famous released scripts) and its concept wouldnt work out. Better do a closed group project, only with participants that you personally approved.
I would like to see what develops out of it, but unfortunately I wouldnt expect much beacause of these reasons.
