Speculate about the "Next-Gen" Consoles
#1

Most of you will probably know that Nintendo already announced their Next-Gen Console: The Wii U.
Apart from the new controller, they have also added some horsepower to (finally) play along in the HD-era.
(Specifications are unknown, rumours and videos* lead to believe it can handle some more-than-decent graphics in 1080p HD.)

But, what do you guys think that Sony and Microsoft come up with for their Next-Gen consoles?

My guess is that they will follow Nintendo's footsteps, and focus more on 'innovation' instead of just adding more horsepower. Since the PS3 and Xbox 360 appeared, the graphics haven't made a huge jump like they did when we moved from the PS2/Xbox to the PS3/Xbox360. (Besides that, not many developers use the consoles to it's full potential yet)
My second reason for this is that both Sony and Microsoft are searching a way into the 'casual market', look at the Move and Kinect.

So yeah, summorized:
I think the next generation of consoles will focus more on the gameplay and the experience, instead of 'just adding more horsepower'.

Discuss your thoughts here. No flamewars please

*No, the video was not pre-rendered. It was a tech-demo to show what the Wii U should atleast be capable of. If it will be capable of more is not known.

PS: Yes, I like Nintendo the most. My opinion towards the other consoles is not biased, however. My opinion is that every console has it's own (dis)advantages.

I think a lot of consoles will be using 3D (with glasses) and indeed things like Kinect, that's the future of game consoles the way I see it!
Look for example at the Nintendo 3DS :P

Edit: And what justsomeguy said: Controlling it with your mind, however I don't really liek that... ofc. it is cool, but that doesn't give 'the real gamer feeling' what you get if your holding a controller or mouse xd

I see things coming up like:
Controlling games with your mind
And:
Second life growing sow fucking big that people will make a special console for that
But what i am looking for is:
HOLODEK!!!!

Consoles have changed a lot, since I started gaming. My first console was a Sega Master System 2, which I still like. I don't really like the new consoles, except XBOX 360.

PS3 feels fake, Nintendo games are not so fun anymore and no more Sega consoles.

Sony's definitely not going to make the same mistake by spending a lot of money on their next console. I have a feeling they will upgrade the Move into something better, upgrade the graphics a tad bit, and add some of the things that PS3 users have been longing for (cross game chat, etc). They will also do what Nintendo did and try to make their handhelds compatible with the console (the way WII U has done it)

Microsoft is going to stick with Kinect and try to make it a better gaming experience. I'm not to sure what else to expect from microsoft

The new Wii I think will be easily beat by both sony and microsoft. Considering Nintendo took the chance by releasing their next generation console earlier then both the top graphics based companies is going to be a drawback for Nintendo. Nintendo will be I believe just like the PS3 and Xbox 360, but when the next gen Sony/Microsoft consoles come out, Wii will once again just be the plain old wii gamers are not to fond of.

Xbox 360 & PS3, both already support 3D. And they are capable of doing a lot of things. So i think that Sony and Microsoft's main aim will be to increase the graphics a little bit, making a cool design and enhancing the gameplay experience. And seriously, we can't say anything like who will beat whom at this time because no one really knows what's ahead. And I'm really getting excited about the new Xbox update which includes *******.

Well. Microsoft & Sony, would have to come up with a thousand new ideas for the next consoles. Besides the fact that the Sony Vita is coming out. Plus, Xbox released the Super Elite, and the Kinect not too long ago.

Consoles improve with the improvement of technology. Move and Kinect are not as good as they seem in the commercials.

I don't like all the movement stuff that you get with all these consoles now. They're now aiming at kids of under 10 and housewives. The casual gamer still prefers the ordinary controller to play a game.

Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft are trying to expand their market by introducing things like the Move and Kinect. They want to market to younger kids and wives with the movement controls, Netflix movies, and etc. They most likely will use a couple of years to perfect and shape the Move and Kinect and not really focus on graphics for the consoles themselves as they are still good for many years.

After doing some more research on Nintendo's "Wii U", and especially the new controllr, i was suprised.
At first I was sceptical about the whole controller. I wasn't a huge fan of the way motion gaming was used in some games, and flicking that thing around would be a huge task. But now, I see some very possitve things about it as well.

The controller:

The things I like are mostly the buttons. (The following is mostly based on hear-say from the IGn website. I have yet to try the controller out myself)
Instead of what peopl suggest, the controller actually seems to be pretty comfortable. I also like the fact that it has about as much buttons as the current consoles, including some extra's like the touchscreen, accelerometer, gyroscope etc. The screen itself is more then just a gimmick. More and more third parties are showing interest in the controller, as it opens doorways to "new ways to experience the game".

I really can't say anything more, as I obviously haven't tried it yet. I am kinda curious how this will work out though.

~Nintendo lover, over and out.
