I installed GTA SA
then did the downgrade patch.
then picked the server i wanted to play on.
and when it starts to load it keeps saying insert cd/dvd into drive.

It means you haven't a legal copy of San Andreas v1.0, thus can't play with the original .exe which was set by the downgrader.

You didn't get me. You haven't got a legal copy of the downgraded version (v1.0), even if you have bought another version (like v2.0).

I doubt that any court would punish him for downloading a 15MB .EXE to be able to play SA:MP when he owns the game and can prove It.
The .exe just executes the game, and Is not the game itself.

I never said he would be punished, I just said it's illegal because he's probably going to download the crack, which makes the game run even if he doesn't own a legal copy of SA.

There you go, It makes the game run even IF you had an illegal copy of the game.
The crack doesn't make It illegal for you to use It on a legal copy, although It's most likely illegal
for the "cracker" to edit the .exe to make It work without the DVD.
