Estimated CPU usage on 200 slot server
#1

Hello,
I am hoping to rent a complete dedicated server to host a few game servers.
My question is can someone estimate the CPU usage for one core for a 200 slot server when full.

The specs of the server:
Intel i7-920 Quad Core
8 GB DDR3
2x 750 GB SATA-2
NIC: 1 Gbit
Port Speed: 100 mbps

Does anyone have a similar server, if so could they tell me there CPU usage when full?

btw to start off i would get a vps and then later on get a dedicated server

Honestly, I have enough history with standard gameservers that I'd rather just get the dedi. However I never tried running a SAMP server but I doubt its anything out of my league.

Port Speed: 100 mbps?
What is your upload speed?

100mbit.

Dedicated servers normally have synchronous connection speeds, i.e download speed is equal to the upload speed.

CPU usage is entirely dependant on your script, however most scripts should barely even register over 10% on that CPU at 200 players - the Intel Core i7 is extremely powerful.

Yep like KingJ said it will rarely go over 10-15%, it's more about the upload speeds

Also (anticipating your next question!) the RAM usage will also be very light. Outbound bandwidth usage will be around 40kbit/player/second (0.04mbit/player/second)

This all of course assumes that you've not been silly and made a giant array for each player and have multiple nested loops attached to timers...

You say this...

Not a contradiction at all. It does depend entirely on your script, but the vast majority of scripts that are around should not push that specific processor model above 10% total utilisation. Some badly written scripts could.

I'm wondering if you could even run LVDM w/ 10% load on that CPU...
