I joined a server and it said to press shift to spawn and it won't work

First of all, you need to register on the same server u want to play using cmd "/register <password>" and
"
"/login <password>". Some of the servers wont let you play before you do that...most of them will get you auto kick if you dont do this first.

thats mostly only on RP servers...

not letting you spawn might be cause u r selecting locked char or something similar, try other one
