County versus City
#1

So I wanted to present a discussion topic today that relates to where a server is based in. I have played in my fair share of City servers, typically Los Santos based, and County servers.

When I ask people what they prefer, it's generally mixed ideas and so I am actually interested to hear what others had to say. When it comes to where a person roleplays, where do you prefer?

If I'm looking at the current state of SA:MP and how, generally, you don't have a ton of high playerbase servers - I feel that county servers are excellent choices. I have personally, with some friends, had great experiences on county servers. We feel like, with a county, your chances of engaging with someone becomes greater. Take this example:

If you are in Los Santos and you have seven players online, your chance of finding any of the other six players is really low due to how many streets, buildings, alleyways, etcetera that a person can be in. In a county, however, that chance of finding someone goes up because of the lesser amount of ways a person can go. Let's say a server is based in Fort Carson, and their primary functions (bank, city hall, etc) are in Fort Carson, then you will statistically see more people in Fort Carson. If you happen to use Red County, even if you use Montgomery and Palomino, for instance, you're still more likely to see people because one city is going to be your "Primary" city and the second will also serve secondary purposes.

On the other hand, I see the argument for Los Santos and other cities. In Los Santos, you can generally accommodate any demographic of player. If you want gangs, you have East LS, Grove Street, etc. You can also fit all your jobs in the city, generally with the exception of trucking since every server seems to make trucking leave LS.

In my personal opinion, I enjoy Counties a little bit better. But for the most part, counties don't get as much success. The only one I know of is Red County Roleplay, which I have played a little bit. I've also played tons of smaller county servers, even had my own county server with some friends for a while. They never seem to last long. I'm interested in the new Bone County Roleplay, but even this new Fort Carson Roleplay that opened has 0 players every single time I look. Now, I'm sure there could be a reason besides the location, but I have to think the location is a factor.

So I was just curious. What do other people think about Counties and Cities?

Well I genuinely think county servers are better. Basically what you said. I like the density of county servers, for example Fort Carson has everything in Main Street which will make ONE STREET a point of interest where a lot of roleplay happens.

Try this: put to points on the map relatively the same distance and track how many (short/legal) routes are from point to point. That's how you see how likely you are to see people. For example Red County: Montgomery to Palomino 2 routes (and a dirt road where you need to jump a bridge). While Los Santos: Going from Grove Street to Glen Park you have somewhat exceeding 7 different routes.

So the chances of you meeting someone doing the same trip but in the other directions are way bigger on the road from Montgomery to Palomino than Grove Street to Glen Park as they could've taken way more routes.

I prefer County, as its small and people don't have to race trough a whole city just to find someone to RP with

Why not both? I suppose both are good enough.

If you're 'racing' through a city, having to catch people for 'RP', I'd suspect you have a very different concept of RP than some...

^^ RP can happen anywhere, just provide good features, and things will work.

The reason why the OP got shot down by Gangsta is a bit stupid really... It is that so many people ask where to set up their server, but to simply rip into them like they'd personally asked all those times prior, is just silly.

Honestly, from me playing both servers in LS and county, that being Los Santos Roleplay and Red County Roleplay, I can say without a doubt, County brings more RP in regards to locations, for instance on RCRP, You'd see people everywhere, be it in Monty, Palo, Blueberry etc, but on Los Santos Roleplay, I can also agree that finding people to RP with in a such big city like LS is hard. While compared to let's say Red County is more easier cause of the smaller size. So it's honestly a split of what you'd prefer.

Well if that's the case. I really choose both. RP servers can happen anywhere as you said. If it's Country, the story is different from the city especially the jobs, factions, etc.

As far as I know, most Country RPs don't including farming in it. Only trucking, fishing, etc.

As far as I know, a very small minority of servers have anything really unique.

Trucking, Taxi, Fishing, Gunsmith, everything that you see on the usual servers, is simply all godfather script remnants.

Sure, maybe someone will edit it up a bit, but it's all standard crap.

That's bullshit. You can't just assume all RP servers are using 'godfather' script or somewhat of it. I'm not into the SAMP RP genre, but I sure have seen some unique ones, but not many exist.

You cannot deny the majority of them are based off Godfather edits... Just look at how fast everyone brings out the NGRP leaks, and the now 'released' NGRP.

I don't assume so, I know so.
