Why aren't SA:MP versions backwards compatible?
#1

I find it a hassle to install two different SA:MP versions incase I want to play in a server that runs on 0.3.7 and later on, on one that runs on 0.3.8. Why is it not possible for people who have the 0.3.8 client installed to play on servers running on 0.3.7?

I have had this question long time...
I guess the code is too different to be able to handle older versions, like u see its created as a server-client pair, not as an update.

OFF-TOPIC: I've seen many threads lol and many arguments according to 0.3.8 cancelations and i agree with some server owners because most of them had big plans with 0.3.8 features but as always Kalcor "ruined" server owner's plans including mine. I was going to open 2 seperate servers (one: Roleplay server based on Las Venturas and second: Point Blank TDM).

ON-TOPIC: My suggestion would be simple for Kalcor and his W-Team. It would be useful if Kalcor and his Team adds a seperate Tab in the SA:MP browser in this way for those who has SA:MP 0.3.7 ver will be able to select in which server they are going to enjoy their day:

- A Normal Server Without Custom Modifications (Internet Tab / Hosted Tab)
- A Normal Server With Custom Modifications (Mod Tab)

In this way it wont reduce the "lack of interest" as Kalcor mentioned and it will be more enjoyable for 0.3.7 users. Think about it Kalcor. ^^ I remember the day you canceled Official Tab because of Lack Of Interest and now 0.3.8 features had the ball (to be canceled) for the same reason at all.

Instead of creating seperate browsers for the same 0.3.7 ver just do what i suggested Kalcor add a seperate Mod Tab which is way more simple than creating a whole browser func.

It would be much better an auto-update feature. SA-MP would be perfect if there was this ...

Even if it wasn't backwards compatible, a version changer would be nice. There's a custom one around somewhere which lets you pick when you launch it. If that was official then the whole 0.3.7-DL thing would become a non-issue.
