Aight,

Here's whats been happening. This has happened a few days ago and just now. I am playing a game such as Grand Theft Auto III(gta 3) and then all of a sudden my graphics just fuck up. The start menu starts having this black box around it until i click it once in a while, - some icons/graphics look REALLY low resolution compared to before and then when I try to run a program such as JernelJ's map editor it states,
Please install proper drivers for your graphics card.

I fixed this before using a system restore, how-ever I am wondering what's causing this and how it can be prevented.

That is kindof obvious that you need to (re-)install GPU drivers.
