Hey there electronic thugs and warriors,
I was browsing the forum, observed some server advertisements and few other topics, so something tickled my mind. So yeah, this is an interesting topic to discuss on - if you were to start a server and you had sufficient funds, what would you do? Would you purchase a brand new forum software with an extraordinary domain name? Would you invest on SA-MP & TeamSpeak servers? How would you gather players? Would you hire developers? And most importantly which gamemode would you use? Would you prefer fresh programming from scratch or just an edited version?
Discuss how would you invest the cash in forming a basic infrastructure so people can grasp your ideas and implement them accordingly which can be beneficial for them. Please maintain a friendly tone whilst discussing and guide inexperienced public with your magnificent power of knowledge.
Cordially,
Innceptionist

I'd script my own server, purchase a domain and forums, make donating cheap and not have any ingame advantages for it. I'd give my friends who I trust and know that aren't retards to keep a check on my server whilst I'm logged off. Then I'd have fun and if people want to join they can, that's up to them.

If funds isn't an issue, then by all means buy a proper domain. I don't really care what forum software is used, but if I see something like freeforums.org or .tk I instantly assume that the server will die within a month.

Don't just let your friends manage the server when you're gone, the server has to be structured. Find a few guys, maybe a few gaming mates of yours to lead the server with you and from that point you'll go hire staff etc.

I would prefer making my own gm(Edited gms suck but somehow the servers that made a gm from scratch get sometimes a low player base) I would have purchase a domain(sadly i am not in the age to do so) i would make a gm like Cops And Robbers or a Roleplay gm and if i would have made my own server i wouldn't really waste my life time and spend half of my profits on a silly server i would prefer work on my education first. if you don't have any payment problems that means that you can do this without any problem. Always make sure you write stuff in the gm with proper grammer cause i see a lot of servers do like this Read Rules To Get Started the proper way will be Read rules to get started. Hope i helped in any way

I say start out small... start with reliable cheap hosting, not super cheap unreliable hosting (poor network, slow response on tickets, etc..) such as MyBB (great free forum software, better than SMF in my opinion).. as you expand you can upgrade to a better forum software like XenForo or IPB (I do not recommend vBulletin as it has security flaws which can be patched if you have the knowledge to do so; used vBulletin and have been defaced a couple of times already..

1) Get the SCRIPT working first, a clean, nice and enjoyable gamemode which I KNOW will be played. For example, I know no one is going to play a role play server thanks to the thousands out there, already. Also, get an answerable and reliable, PAID host.
2) Get a good domain and get a forum package. I don't believe in vB, but I might get IPB which I find real sleek.
3) Put aside at-least 30$ - 50$ (if funds is NOT a constraint!) to advertise for the server, the correct way.
4) Will concentrate on it, not something I'll be doing as a part - time thing..
