Composing a new computer
#1

Hello,

Next summer I might be buying a new PC and I consider composing it so I can select all parts by myself.

This is what I currently have in mind, what are your opinions?

Windows 7 Home Premium NL OEM
GeForce GTX 650 Ti SSC (01G-P4-3652-K1)
Intel Core™ i5-3570K 3.4 Ghz
MSI B75A-G43 GAMING Motherboard
16 GB DD3 RAM
Aerocool GT White Case
Aerocool AP-650, 650 watt

I am not gaming that much, nor will I be able to do in the near future, but I want games with lower requirements like Arma 2, DayZ to be able to play on full graphics with a good gameplay, and games with requirements like BF4 at least at medium.

I am not going to install it myself, but the company where I will order this will assemble it and ship it to me.

Do you need 16gb ram? Also I don't see a hard disk, get an SSD.

Yeah maybe 16 gb is quite an overkill... 8 gb would be fine I guess.

As for the hard drive; didn't incluse it on the list but it's a 1 TB SATA hard drive.

That config would be around 800 euros. Maybe I can use the money I save by taking 8 instead of 16 gb to buy an additional SSD.

Next summer is at least 6 months away, which is ages in terms of computer hardware. It's not really useful to select parts for a PC that you don't intend to purchase in the foreseeable future.

Vince is right. Many things will change, new Intel CPU's (Haswell Refresh) and new GPU architecture (NVIDIA Maxwell).

By summer is a little bit late, maybe around April already.

I know that there will be better hardware at that point, but I'm already looking for what I can buy with the budget I have. Would the system I posted be sufficient for what I said?

For good graphics, you'll need a better video card. That is a 1 generation old bottom of the line card. I would get a GTX760, it is such a boost in terms of performance, and it's not too expensive. Also, assemble it yourself, and save a few hundred dollars, IBUYPOWER and CyberPowerPC are actually a pretty big ripoff when it only takes about 2 hours to put a PC together. BTW, Get W8 rather than W7, IK lots of people hate it, but honestly, when you start to use, you will notice the boat load of advantages that it has. And no, it doesn't look that bad. I think it looks good.

16GB of RAM is good, regardless of what people say, I would get 16GB because the price difference is negligible, and no you can't buy an SSD with the money. An SSD is at least $175 and don't get one smaller than 240 GB. If youre spending around 1k for a computer, put in the extra 20-30$ and get 16 GB RAM. You wont regret it!
