[HOW TO] Handle NGG DCMA's
#1

[[ Disclaimer for Mods: This posts is NOT for hate, this posts is to help protect the SAMP Community from having illegal DCMA's from servers that think they own all rights to a SAMP script.]]

Recently you may have been noticing one server in particular really wanting to get servers taken down for using their script.
Next Generation Gaming
Now this is not a hate posts but i want all users too understand that what they are trying to claim as their own isn't really LEGAL so if you receive a "DCMA" from your hosts Check the email and contact the support team as it may be a fake email.
Secondly, if it's real send them the SA-MP License Agreement content.
90% Of the time this will work, 10% it will not because of hosts terms and policy's

I personally was working for a server that was using the script, i did what i did above while they attempted too take us down with a fake DCMA.

Hosts that this Anti-NGG DCMA worked on:
NFOServers
Volt-Hosts
KingJ
Gamehosting Essentials
Burst Host
Rackspace
LiquidWeb
Dreamhosts

Hosts that this Anti-NGG DCMA hasn't worked on:
None at the moment, please post if any haven't worked for you yet.

It's true.. Once something is edited from it's original copyright material.. It isn't copyrighted anymore. So if you take the NGRP script.. change /admins to /administrators.. It's offical un-copyrighted as it won't fit the EXACT material NGRP is on.

What the fuck?
So I can take a bottle of Coke, add a teaspoon of sugar and then it's legally my recipe? I don't think they would be too happy if I tried to sell that all around the world.

Nobody should be giving or taking legal advice on the SA-MP forums, especially from people who use terms such as "official un-copyrighted".

If you're using code that someone else wrote without their permission, you can expect to get in trouble.

Who said he was selling? We are talking usage, not selling.

Under what law will it protect SAMP Coding?
Also how is Rockstar responding to people copyrighting their code genre?
Pretty sure legally that to even get a code copy written to a Rockstar North Game you be paying millions and millions, and NGG is only making thousands.

You don't have to be selling something or making a profit to infringe copyright.

I just said nobody should be taking or giving advice here, but for the sake of hopefully preventing people believing crap like this, I'll go. Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer or an expert in copyright law, this is just simple stuff that seemingly cannot be comprehended by 95% of people here who make reference to copyright laws. If anyone here is more knowledgeable than me, and what I'm saying is wrong, please let me know.

The copyright of any piece of work of reasonable effort belongs to the author. That means a piece of code such as NGRP's SA-MP script. The fact that it's a SA-MP script has nothing to do with copyright laws, it's an independant work and nobody else (such as the SA-MP team or Rockstar) can change the fact that it belongs to the author. That means the author can decide who gets to use it. If someone obtains it and distributes it without the author's permission, that doesn't automatically give any rights to anyone else. Same goes if you obtain it and change a few things around (as Harmon suggested) - it does not make it your work and if you couldn't legally use it before, you can't legally use it now.

This thread is one load of bull.
Why go through the effort using their script, perfectly knowing you're not allowed to do so, when you can also download any other script from this forum or even make your own.

I also completely agree with ev0lution

It funny how you can't even put the acronym right.

Their script is an edit of the SARP script they stole which is an edit of the God Father RP script. I have no fucking idea how they can claim copyrights of a script they never made but just edited LOL
