What can I do with a spare computer?
#1

I've recently got another computer (my parents computer, screen is cracked (it's a laptop, so I have it connected to my display when I want to see anything)).

Here are the specs:

AMD A8-3520m APU 1.60 (It's a quad core.)
6 GB of ram
AMD Radeon 6620g
640 GB HDD.

It works fine other than the whole screen being cracked. I'm using it to type this message right now. What can I do with it so it actually has a use rather than sitting on my desk?

It's an HP DV6 DC35DX if anyone is wondering.

Compute some litecoins. Not sure though if its fast enough to compensate the power costs.

Do you want to host on it or something?

I was thinking that but I left my main PC on for a couple days doing it and I didn't even get one litecoin so I don't know.

Doubt I could. Unless you mean home network. The reason I couldn't do an actual host for people is because of my upload and download. 7 mbps down, 0.3 up. Believe me, if I could I would host people's SA-MP servers on it haha.

Oh yeah, and if anyone has any other ideas, I have another laptop, A powerbook G4. It's old though so I doubt anyone would. Single core 1.66 GHZ, 512 mb ram, 80gb hdd. haha.

There are ways to work in groups (called mining pools) You get small pieces of coins in way shorter intervals there. You might mine worth about 1-2$ dollar there daily, but not sure how much power a laptop drains on full load, at least on most desktop pcs it doesnt really pay out.

Actually, if you don't already have a wireless printer, you could take a 10-20 year old computer and make it a print server. Since you said you have two, you could easily put up a home network for sharing files between computers on the network. While I have a router that does this with a few different drives, doing it with a computer isn't MUCH of a difference.

The difference is the power consumption. A router takes 5-10 watts, a computer 100-150. A laptop would be okay though, but for the money a normal computer eats in 2 months you could just go and buy a router

Hmm two computers. Always wanted it. Say you're doing some crazy rendering on your main pc, and it takes up all CPU. Just make it render on your other pc.

You can always sell it for extra cash.

You can always bot on runescape.... :P

If you want to feel good about yourself, you could donate it to Goodwill.
