well no, when you have one Intel MotherBoard you cannot change to an AMD processor until you buy other motherboard with AMD socket, since socket and chipset would reject it.

to know if one motherboard is AMD or Intel it's easy normally Intel Socket's are called with numbers for example 1366 , 775, but the lastest AMD one's are called as AM2 , AM2+ , AM3 for example..

Agreed. When you buy a new processor, most likely you have to change your mother board...
Same for me, my pc i got it from repaired yesterday, i had to buy a new motherboard + processor. The bios chip got f***ed, + the processor pins got bend dunno how. So i still could of used the same motherboard, just buy a new bios chip but he said if i do, it wont work because the processor is not the same, the socket... so i paid over 200Ђ just in peaces...

Don't change anything. Just buy a or compose a new computer. Your graphics card isn't good either.

Intel and AMD require different types of motherboards.

Even Intel I7 and Pentium require different connectors and BIOS to run.

IMHO do a fresh OS install. that will keep you happy for a couple of months while you save up for a new PC

I agree, with these specs you can better buy a new pc, upgrading is kinda useless because then you have to upgrade almost everything.

If you upgrade the CPU, the performance boost will be minute because you will just have bottlenecks on things like your graphics card and ram; then you will have to end up replacing them too.

Like said above, do a fresh OS install, and save money to buy a computer. Or go to www.tigerdirect.com and look at their barebone builds. They come in packages of EVERYTHING you need to build your computer, so its easy to get a good system.

If your going to run a AMD Cpu, then you'll need an AMD mobo.
If your going to run a Intel CPU, then you'll need an Intel mobo.

You can still run any kind of ram which each, Intel and AMD board.. but you have to have the right pin that your board needs.. Example, your board can hold 4x240 Pin DDR2, then you'll need the same kind of DDR2 ram to fit.

I recommend getting either a AMD Athlon X4 or AMD Phenom II X2.. http://newegg.com is for all your needs to computing. Wish you the best of luck

Upgrade your mobo, cause there are some pretty cheap ones. And you can find some good deals online for packages of a CPU and mobo. Thats what i recommend.
