Old notebook HOST machine?
#1

Ok i have old notebook "Compaq Evo n800c"

Configuration:
Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor-M – 2.2 GHz
256-MB DDR SDRAM (266 MHz)
My net is A-DSL 5mb/s

My question:
Is there any chance that these piece of shit can become a host machine for my private server?
planed:20-40 players (no NPC's)
Gamemode:Big Drift GM (light RP included)

It doesn't really matter what hardware the app is running on, it has all to do with the internet connection. Which, for 95% of people, just won't do.

5mb will not be enough. I have 16mb Broadband and people lag with 400-500 ping on my home servers, with small regards to where they live.

Never host on a laptop, it's not made for it, and 256mb is just way too less for an O.S. + SA:MP server.

Laptops works just fine with it.

That old notebook should be able to run your server perfectly.

You totally don't have any idea about hosting.

A laptop has not been designed to work 24/7, and Windows XP recommends 512mb RAM, whoever this laptop has 256mb AND he want to host a server, he probably has wireless also, and a slow internet connection, or high ping.

He just made the 3 bad combinations;
- Never homehost
- Never homehost on a laptop
- Never homehost on a laptop with wireless.
So tell me. Why not on a laptop?
I agree on the part on homehost and wireless.

A laptop has not been designed to work and calculate 24/7.
It will produce heat and again, a laptop has not been designed for that.

And Windows XP recommends 512mb RAM, whoever this laptop has 256mb AND he want to host a server, he probably has wireless also, which will result in lag.

Depends on what laptop he have. Remember, old laptops are built to hold. Also, I still don't see WHY it not should be.
May I be an idiot now, but not to work 24/7? Bullshit. I know many guys who used old laptops to stuff like that. Works perfectly.
