How much does your computer cost a year?
#1

Well basically, doing the math it cost's me around Ј547 a year to run my computer. I found this sort of shocking :<

Here is how.

Watts x Hours Used / 1000 x Cost per kilowatt-hour = Total Cost

Also first you got to work out what you are paying per kWh. for me it's around 0.15GBP per kWh.
If you are not sure, use mine as an estimate.

For my example i did.

I'm using around 400 watts as it's on 24/7 and i always forget to turn off my monitors >.< so...

400 x 24 hours x 365 days/yr = 3650000 watt-hours which is about 3650 kilowatt-hours. And if you remember i'm paying 0.15 per kWh, i'm paying Ј547 per year.

*EHM* If you are REALLY stuck and cant work something out, ask.

A normal CRT (Chunky) (17") Monitor uses around 80W, if you PSU is about 220W, i would guess you are using mostly 80w-120w mostly
a Flatscreen uses around 17-31 watts. (17")
so that's 180w then do the math.

180 x how many hours a day you use x 365 =

Still stuck? Ask me and tell me how much you use. and ill work it out

Unless you're actually measuring the current draw with an ammeter this topic is completely useless.

Not exactly, you can get a rough estimate. a normal desktop PC uses around 120w ish. depending on specs and what you do with it.

Most people have power saving mode on, so I'm not to sure.

Mines not on 24-7 though, plus I don't pay for electricity so who cares
