Whats the best way, to start a RP server?
#1

I just want to know some advice from people who have got a lot of players, how did they start out and work there way to the top with more active players coming? Tell me you're story and advice on the thing.

Many have told me to start out small in a town, then when more people fill in, Example ( 20 Active players/per day) its time to move to a city.

Tell me you're advice and story.

Hey,

I dont have RP servers but starting with a small town then moving to big..Is kinda of useless. Work on the script so it's great, ready for 1000 players if neccessary. By changing the towns (or expanding) you'll have to write all over again.

It helps if you have a friend or two that could play with you, cause if someone sees 3 players online they might join.

A good name, not some boring names like 'Good RolePlay' or 'New RolePlay'. Keep it simple and awesome, or complex but so they can remember.

Try not to use the same gamemodes as everyone else. Sure, download one but then edit it.

Hope it helps. I've played on lots of RP Servers from 30 to 200 people.

Where have you been playing? Godfather server?

With my script (and many many other scripts), expanding can be done simply with a few admin commands - no scripting needed.

Starting a RP server is hard. If I knew the best & easiest & fastest way to get a successful RP server, I most probably would be leading one.

I had RP server too it got popular, but after reset most of player left and server fell down. In start we played with friends only. These friends with who I made the server. I knew some RP people from old times, they came to play. They called their friends and so on. Thats how its got popular.
You need a unique GM and unique futures. People are tired of same gf edits what dont have any unique futures. There is hundreds of rp servers with gf gm what not have even been edited. Server name is important too, you need some cool unique name.
You must help people and talk them. If they ask something try always answer. If you ignore them they will left. Its not easy and pretty hard If you have about 20 players or even 10 annoying players.

Anyway I wish you good luck with that server !

I agree with Peep.

It is not easy to get RP Server get populated very much. You need unique features. And maybe GM from scratch

True.

You can join almost any Roleplay server and expect to find the exact same crap as the last server. Policeman, Army, SWAT, Pizza Delivery, Driving schools, Mafia's, Grove Street, Balla's.

What you need is not just a server with unique features. I'll use criticaLs old server as an example which ran on a very, very basic script, very active admins, a very friendly community, and a very vegetative variety of organizations (enough v's eh). You need an original idea, or something that goes into detail on one particular subject.
3 more examples:

-The Godfather : Mafia's
-Streetz of Los Santos : High crime rates, ghetto, street gangs ruling over most of the city
-International Trucking Server : Truck Driving

Each one of those servers could be classified as Roleplay, and they each have / had a high amount of regular / new players. If you come up with good idea's, and can focus the server in one direction, people are bound to join. I guess you could say that if the server distinctively displays the theme well, it will work out. You could use the Call of Duty, Area 51, Cops n Robbers, ect servers as non-RP examples. Linear servers, simple idea's, high success.

People want to be able to jump into the role, not take 48 hours to first get to know what the server has and how to get where you want to go, then apply to become said job, and then once they get into it realize they want to do something else in your server of 100 other jobs.

It doesn't really matter what you base it on, as long as you have a theme that's possible and somewhat relative to GTA.

Just don't forget that a good / well made script is also needed. It has to be very user friendly, so that 500 players could all join at once and you'd only get 1 or 2 that have to ask about how to do something.

Simply put: Good Theme + User friendly script.

That's my 50 cents anyway.

Well it's obvious enough that most people have suggested that you need a proper script, not one that you have downloaded off the Gamemode Showroom and edited a bit, then claiming that this is your script. It doesn't work that way to reach such a high level of popularity.

Over the years, the competition for the best RP server has just increased to a point where only about 5 out of 1700 reach a decent playerbase in order to continue. But here are a few tips if you're keen on attracting players:

• Use a decent script - as mentioned above and in other posts, don't just simply download one, start from scratch, create your own unique systems, use the latest in tech (*hint* MySQL *hint*) and make it look presentable. Textdraws left right and center make your server look unattractive.

• Gather a decent community - I have come across so many different servers that are just full of cunts that make you cringe. They admins (obviously) promote themselves as the best and treat their players like shit. As for the veteran players, make sure they don't get too much shit to the newbies, as its just an invitation for them to leave. You may be thinking, so what, I got a shitload of players, who cares if they are assholes. It's everything, it's the first impressions your community has on newbies. I can tell you that much.

• Create a professional standard forum for player discussion - For the role play community's sake, please do NOT sign up for a 'free forum' account. Look into hosting your own, search around the place, or ask someone who is capable of setting one up for you. A domain like 'coolroleplay.freeforum.thiswasfreesoijoinedandido ntwanttoputeffortintothiscommunity.com' just turns a lot of players off.

• Keep your server active - someone mentioned above (sorry for not quoting) but it's an ideal way to attract players by having about 3 people online. People are always searching for new communities to join and are always interested in trying out a new server. To keep them there, it would be ideal to have a server ambassador to greet them and maybe show them around a bit.

There is A LOT more to it, but those are just some simple guidelines to help you get on your way.

Good luck!

1. Start thinking about the concept what do you want in it and what makes your server unique that other servers dont have. The concept is like the name etc.

2. If you got friends that play also sa-mp ask them if they want to be a team with you.

3. Scripting - Put the unique feathers in it.

4. Create a forum where you can reject the people that you advertismed to your server

5. Start advertisme your server on all the forums and website's you can find.

6. Be allot in your server because when you leave people dont come and be sure that your team is come online every day 2 because this is really inportand no players in game = no players in!

7. Try to update your script almost 1 time a week try to do it in small updates.

8. Try to be really active on your forum because this is now the place where new people are going to look!

About town choosing, choose a little county or a small town. In that way people will see each other on the streets and there won't be a ghost town - then move in to the city when the player amount get larger (30+?)
