i used to play samp a while back before apprently there was some program problem and no one was playing it htis was way before version 3 was released. i finally have a pc in my house again and i was looking forward to playing some gta samp seeing as a new version had been released. i installed it and got it running and in the server panel i get nothing but blank screen where all the games should be.

Sounds stupid, I know... But are you making sure to go to one of the tabs down the bottom of the window, there is "Internet" and "Hosted", search through those until you find a server you enjoy then copy the IP and add it to your favorites by clicking the orange tick in the top left and pasting the IP.
