Im unsure if this would work so if it dont just tell me.
Im thinking about upgrading my computers hardware and making it into a Home Server.
Im thinking about doing this because I can then host the sa-mp server for myself.
Current PC Specs:
Asus PSE-VM-DO Motherboard
4gb Unbuffered RAM
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz Processor 4mb Cache.
1TB SATA II Hard-Drive
1gb ATI 5450 Graphics Card
50MB Fibre Optic Broadband
I was wondering what hardware would I need to upgrade to run a sa-mp server for many players to accsess without their ping being very high and for it to run smoothly.
Thanks,

Hi,
Your hardware seems to be pretty good in itself, and it is more then capable of hosting one SA-MP Server(providing this is the only thing you are doing, so no-other heavy-duty applications open).
Your 50MB Fibre Optic broadband slightly worries me, this is Virgin, correct?
While you do have 50MB down which is pretty awesome, your upload, even with Virgin is going to be somewhere around 2-5MB if I'm not mistaken. Also, Virgin tends to limit you in-terms of Download and Upload according to it's fair usage policy, it's well known for doing this and a SA-MP server is going to use a lot of bandwidth, it's possibly they may cut-off or bottleneck your internet connection.
So, the connection is what I would worry about, other then that it looks pretty decent.
Hope this helped.

Ok thanks for that information.
Yes it is with virgin media, Yes I have heard of virgin 'capping' peoples internet due to them over using alot of bandwidth. Ill have a look at virgins website to see if there is a deal where they offer better bandwidth.
Thanks.

Try to make a deal with your parents. Ask them what they spend monthly already, then be willing to pay for the difference for the better internet.

In the UK, there is no better internet other than 50mb hosted by virgin.

What, you're saying that there isn't 1gb lines available?

I agree with him pretty much, I know your only 15 but if you got a part time job even like just 10 hours a week you'll have the cash and the internet connection is a lot better than paying 50 dollars at a ISP.
I use to co-locate a box i bought for 2 grand for 3 years at a Toronto Database when i lived in Toronto years back, I paid about 80 bucks a month for 100mbps connection with 4TB of Bandwidth, But trying to buy that at any ISP would be about 400-500$ here.
I never had any real downtime and i only lived 5 minutes from the datacenter and i had guest pass to always go inside and check up on it and such was put online and cooled 24/7, It ran fine for years and i made lots more cash than what i Paid for the dedicated after a few months and i didn't even have to pay for the 80 bucks a month anymore it paid itself and i made an extra 100-200$ a month.
It really can be useful to be with a datacenter and your PC is pretty good but than again for a datacenter you need it all inside a "Server Box" which is what costed me lots but yeah if you decide to have it around you and you wanna save cash its kinda best way..

Toronto is expensive, Dallas is the cheapest for colo. That, Seattle or Maryland. UK is pretty decent, check out rapidswitch.com
And you can get a IBM 1u box for your server off eBay for around $10-$20 if needed.
