SA MP on version 3.
#1

I recently bought SA on steam, and I was about to download SA-MP, when I found out that it was in fact incompatible with the steam version. Me being a determined fellow, I thought: what exactly makes it incompatible? I think it's just the memory addresses that are different to the other versions, which I immediately realised would not be that hard to make compatible. I would be willing to sit for hours on end and locate all the addresses for everything. some will not be that hard, but most would be incredibly hard to locate- such as vehivle addresses, time adresses, and other similar variables within the game.
What i'm asking is, why is SA-MP incompatible with V3 of SA?

After hot coffee (****** it) they made an un-moddable version, version 1.01 and v2 then the steam version came along not too long ago and it was version 3. You need the first, version 1 or a downgrader (only compatible with v1.01 and v2) to play sa-mp.

- I got access to a 3.0 gta_sa.exe and found it was packed/encrypted. I can't even see the memory addresses to begin with.

- Your assumption that it wouldn't be hard to support versions with different addresses -- perhaps you are unaware that SA-MP uses thousands of addresses in the exe and I also rely on these addresses to source and fix crashes. These addresses aren't just used to peek and poke data, there are loads of instruction patches and hooks.

- The Steam version of San Andreas is not available in my country, and up until recently was only available in North America. So, even if someone handed me a scroll with all the 3.0 addresses, I'd not be able to test it.

- Versions of gta_sa.exe after 1.00 have anti-modding protection. While it may not be difficult to get around this protection, I'm taking this as a hint that Rockstar don't want these versions to be modded.

I can't really see SA-MP supporting versions other than the 1.00 exe which requires a 2.0 or 1.0 DVD.

OK, thank you for this information, I have downloaded a version 1.00 exe which works fine with SA-MP. I didn't realise how much development has gone into this, and how complicated it was to develop. As for it being unavailable for your country, I'm sure there would be willing beta testers to check it works, and to make improvements.

so, in other words, topic closed.
