I got the same error! But it works for me now, try to change the compability mode to windows 8 ((If you have Win) If not, Change it to Win7. and run it as an Administrator, and it should work!

I have win 8.1, but that doesn't really matter, i tried with both 7 and 8 (comp modes), i dont think it has anything to do with it, this morning everything worked like a charm but now it just crashes on startup.

Try running it with Windows 98 / Me compatibility and also check the "Run this program as administrator" option in properties.
