The wiki is a good starting point, just make sure you watch what other people do (~/.bash_history) if you give them access to your server

Also when he gives me acces, he shouldn't give me root. Just an account - otherwise I get full acces, which I don't want.

If it's windows just download microsoft redist. 2010 and 2012 and most plug-ins should work.
