This attack was caused by a 'denial of service' vulnerability in SA-MP's lower level networking layer. Attackers used custom written tools and specially formulated packets to attack SA-MP servers.

Do they have any benefit for doing this?
I mean, why do hackers do such things?
Spend alot of time to figure out such weaknesses in server packages, spend even more time to write a program to attack the weakness and carry it out without getting anything in return (they don't earn money by doing this).
Do they like it to see servers going down or what?
They must also see that all their actions have now been counterfitted by a new server update and their attack is worthless now.
They spent so much time planning this (investigating weaknesses, writing a program and such things) and after 24 hours, their effort is now useless by the update.
If they really wanna hack and get a benefit, why don't they hack something else, like a rich person's bankaccount or something?
Then they get something in return.
I don't see the point in attacking game-servers which are upgraded to counter their attacks the next day.

They're sad losers who enjoy destroying things pretty much.

yeah, attacking samp is quite stupid, and pointless. I would rather try and hack a government site an get some juicy information and threaten the government to give give you a couple million bucks, or you'll share it with the world or something, lol, but anyway, i always see positives.... my server got more players because many others were locked, sa-mp forums got over 4000 user online at once, made sa-mp stronger and it was kinda fun

You do know that hacking servers in SA-MP won't get you in much trouble as hacking a government site will?

If your hacking skills are good enough, you could hack government sites without their knowledge if they have a backdoor open in their OS.
And you could sell it to the black market and make big money that way.
Hacking samp servers is meaningless and stupid.
Kids these days have nothing better to do?
Why don't they learn to do something constructive and enjoy that instead?
Anyone can destroy something, it's only a matter of picking up a hammer and hit with it.
But building something up from scratch, that's the hard work kids these days are afraid of, because their hands will get dirty.
But it will most certainly help others and themselves later on and can give an even greater satisfaction.
Crashing a server is fun for a minute or 2.
Building something that lasts for years can give you years of enjoyment, but needs more work as said before.
