Hey there,

I am DEADdem. Famous in some places, Uknown in others. I am the founder of a new Community, and I was wondering some things.. Like how I can go about hiring new Admins and Mods and what not. As the only person that I was gonna start this with left, I cannot do this on my own, But I do not know how to approach the staff hiring thing; How can I trust people with staff positions, and what should I do to people who gaunter about, asking to be Admin as soon as they arrive? My old instinct was to ban on sight, but that isnt very productive ?

First of all , starting community on your own isn't good idea so i suggest to you to search for a co-owner or partner , must have some scripters to help you and good trusted Management team.
if the people you are hiring isn't trusted , put them as trial and see if they are going to get mad / etc
so simply do this
Put them in level 1 and each of them must show you that he is trusted and should get promoted otherwise leave them in level 1 forever.

People asking for admin don't want to help, they want the power which is the worth thing to give them. I normally troll around, give them some sort of admin and then pban them. I wouldn't advise it though if your script won't let you ban other admins Lol. Don't give power to those who just ask for admins, give it to those who want to the help the server and who have proven that their intentions are only to help the server.

You MUST trust your level 1 admins as much as you would trust yourself or a close friend.

I have thought of a promoting system but haven't turned it into reality yet: people can report cheaters and rulebreakers in your forum by providing screenshots and videos as proof. For each valid report, they get some kind of score (something like reputation in this forum, but settable by admins only). At the same time, the reported player gets negative points. And then you promote players according to that score.

Woah, banning someone only for asking for admin? I think you are just too drastic. If someone asks to become admin, what about just ignoring him?

People will actually report instead of thinking it's a waste of time

When it's a big server, I'd understand your point but I only run a small RP server with my friends so it's not so much of an issue.

In fact your server being small is why you should ban only for good reasons, whereas big servers are the ones that can afford banning players less carefully because they still have lots of them.

Na it's just for friends. I don't really have any intention of growing big. The reason I try to advertise a bit is so maybe we can get some more people to join us. But hey, we're going off topic here. xD

If someone asks to be an admin; I'd suggest interviewing them instead of straight up banning and/or denying them on the spot. What if you say no and he's a good guy, trustworthy etc. If not, and you can straight up tell they aint gonna be good, dont choose em. But atleast give people a chance, you can never judge a book by its cover... I ran a RP server before which got 20+ players in a week and in a month 50+.
